There is such a contrast between King Saul and King David. And then Saul’s transformation to Paul.
Externally Saul stood out, tall, and handsome. He looked like the best choice from the outside as king. Then later, David is chosen by God. He is referred to as “a man after God’s own heart.” He was ruddy, also handsome, but the least of his brothers. He kept sheep, a shepherd, shadowing the future Shepherd Jesus.
What’s inside a person, our character, our value system, is extremely important to God. I believe He goes to great lengths to ensure, through our personal surrender, personal Holy Spirit transformation, that we become who we were meant to be to truly reflect Christ.
Are we fully surrendered to Holy Spirit for our personal best, for His personal best transformation for us, to look more like Christ?
Now Saul thought he was doing the right thing for God. It turns out he was killing and arresting God’s own kids, Jesus followers. That is of course until he had a significant encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. A bright light that temporarily blinded him until he could see rightly again, through the eyes of Jesus. Through the encounter and surrendering to Jesus’ Lordship, he shifted his life beautifully to serve the LORD Jesus.
Are we on the right side? Are we doing the right thing for Christ? Are we surrendered fully to Jesus’ Lordship? For His will to be done?
